GHK match report

G H K vs Trinity match Report

A bright afternoon at Anniesland for Super Saturday - by jove supporters on the touchline and in the Pavilion thereafter were not disappointed!

Our side was changed from the Thursday teamsheet and saw the inclusion of a number of the 2XV making up the numbers. The home side lost the toss and were forced to play towards Disco's favourite - Anniesland Road in the first half. "Rushing out" to join the opposition 5 minutes after the kick off time is not good practice.........

Initially it looked like both sides were to be evenly matched, however, the home side did well creating good ball, finding the odd gap in the visitors defence only to take the wrong option or make unforced errors in attack. An unfortunate yellow card for Rory at full back after 20 minutes gave the visitors advantage in numbers and we found ourselves a converted try down having missed a penalty attempt. A couple more good breaks from Pete Ritchie at centre created openings, pity ball was either spilt in the tackle or given away in attack. In the first half the forwards performed well in the scrum and looked more of a unit.

Unlucky to be just 7 points down at half time but missed penalty chances went begging.

The pack continued their good work in the second half setting up good scrummage ball allowing Ally Cumming at number 8 to score a fine unconverted try. 5 - 7. Drummond as one of the mobile second row made a fine break up the btouchline, feeding to Disco who was held up close to the line. Rory McCormack then scored off another good scrum 10 - 7.

The yellow cards evened up midway through the half and took a bit of advantage and our Gunning stand off scored another try off a good break and well worked phases 15 - 7. A penalty conceded took the score to 15 - 10 and the guys started exerting influence on the game and putting improved forward performance to our advantage. Our courageous captain Disco scored from another good scrum in the opposition half. 22 - 10. Proof of forward display again towards full time with Cammy McClay scoring from short range.

Full time score 27 - 10 and into winning bonus point territory for the first time in a while. Oh how the scoreline would have changed had we kicked all our opportunities.

A fine afternoons work, congratulations to the whole team. Fine performances from Disco, Pete Ritchie, Rory McCormack, Mike Aird and Gordy Reid to name but a few.

Celebrations followed and bar takings reflected a super Saturday at Anniesland!
