David Kelso reviews tonights derby clash

The Herald reports

Kenny Murray, the Ayr coach, reckons his side’s prospects of keeping their Premier crown will hinge on tonight’s derby match at Old Anniesland.

Anything other than a win will make Currie hot favourites to steal the glory, while the seasiders are aiming for a league and cup double.

Murray said: “This is a huge match for everyone connected with the club.
It’s a must-win occasion. Hawks are very difficult to play against and we know we will have to be at our best to get the result we want.”

Andy Dunlop, Andy Wilson and Ally MacFarlane return to the Ayr squad, having missed the semi-final success against Heriot’s last week.

Hawks are without Duncan Weir and Kerr Gossman who are on Scotland Under-19 duty.

Euan Morrison comes in at centre to add physicality, with Robbie Hair switching to wing. Up front, veteran John MacLay and rookie Callum Harvey replace the unavailable Eric Milligan and Rory McKay.

Coach Peter Wright said: “We want to get the win that will act as a springboard for next season and it has the potential to be a cracking game, with Ayr on a high after reaching their first cup final.”

Prediction: Ayr by a whisker
