High School go undefeated

Heavy overnight rain prevented the game from being played at the Capilano Rugby Club and the
game was switched to the school ground at Handsworth with the very picturesque backdrop of
Grouse Mountain.

The High School got into their stride early with Murray Cubie touching down after 3 minutes,
which Sam Greenock converted. Olly Perry, Rory Taylor and Robbie Hirst also touched down
within the first 20 minutes and it looked as though a big score was on the cards. However,
Handsworth had other ideas and crossed the try line to make the half time score 22-5 to High
School.

Cameron Crozier scored just after the restart  and Euan Bell successfully added the two
points. For the next twenty minutes, Handsworth put together some good passages of play and
were rightly rewarded with two more tries, one of which was scored by an excellent individual
run by one of their centres, who certainly had a bit of gas. This brought the score back to
29-15 with just 5 minutes of play remaining. With Handsworth keen to get back in the game
they started to risk everything. The flamboyant Shane MacLennen then produced the killer
touch with an interception. This was no length of the field run being chased by all the
defenders. No, this was the rather simpler version of intercepting the ball behind the
Handsworth try line and falling straight down to score. Euan Bell converted. Euan then
followed up a kick and picked up the resulting bouncing ball to stroll in under the posts to
make his conversion a bit more straightforward. Handsworth kept on going to the end and
probably deserved their fourth try of the day to make the final score 43-20 to High School.

This was a successful conclusion to an excellent tour and thanks must go to Mr. Barrett, who
was the mastermind behind the whole trip.
