Saturday 10 April - Match Report v Gordonians
Glorious weather graced the park at OA to welcome our visitors from the north. Some change from 2 weeks ago when thermals were required.
Initially not much between the sides, home advantage with the elements allowed us to make the odd nudge up the park. Possession after 10 minutes just inside the Gordonians half and Robbie Stewart made a surprisingly good break to score a try under the posts. 7 - 0
The visitors pulled 3 points back from a penalty awarded for a high tackle. Ten minutes later our eager centre and vice Captain Danny Hoffman made an excellent break, supported by Pete Ritchie to score a well deserved try. Good angles and decisive running paid off. 12 – 3. Robbie converted a penalty chance to make it 15 – 3.
More good running from the backs and a break mid way in the opposition half produced a try for young Johnston - good pace on the wing 22 – 3 at half time.
We used the elements well in the first half, a much better performance from the whole team.
Gordonians must have had a stern talking to at half time as they started to put us under pressure and pulled points back after a penalty. Then in the space of 15 minutes the visitors scored two tries and with one conversion the score started to move in the wrong direction. 25 – 15. Towards the end of the half our forwards continued to produce good ball, the backs were unable to convert chances and it fell to our breenging Captain Disco to score a fine try off a well worked driving maul. A final score 32 – 15 and a bonus point!
A thoroughly good performance with excellent displays throughout the team at scrum half; centre and in the forwards from Drummond and Darcy at No 8. Strange afternoon in bright sunshine, Camy at prop seemed to think he was playing football some of the time!
2 home games to go guys, well done - keep it up!
