Match Report v Forrester
Saturday 17 March 2010
A breezy afternoon for super Saturday at OA. Much speculation on the touchline ahead of the game - would past Presi Munro be able to get the scoreboard working, or might it have been better to leave last week's score up as a target?
Anyway back to the game, we were fighting against the elements in the first half. Some good possession in the first 10 minutes, but either over complicating moves or making silly mistakes led to too much spilled ball. Visitors were the first up with a penalty for offside 0-3. Then a bit of backchat to the referee puts the oppo No 7 yellow in the sin bin. Not phased by this the visiting touchjudge was also bannished to the stand for failing to agree with the decision.
Last week's star back row member Neilson scored a fine try after 25 minutes 7-3. The visitors scored a good try moving the ball wide to expose our defence, and shortly before half time repeated the play to score from just outside our 22. 7-15 at half time.
In the second half although we did use the wind to force the visitors back down the park. As a direct result of this our forwards pieced good driving mauls together, the first resulting in a try for our wing forward/hooker(?)Gordy Reid. Another good effort in the forwards created a try for Johnston off another driving maul pulling the score 19-15.
Over this half there were good performances from D'Arcy at No 8; Scott Cameron in the front row and Shedden at scrum half. Some changes put Fleming in at No 10 - to good effect. Well worked kicking led to territorial gain in the opposition 22 with the forward using the driving maul again and Gordy Reid scoring for a second time. 26-15
A wee while later similar situation with a driving maul off well worked ball and our courageous Captain scores. 33-15 at full time. A well earned bonus point and a cracking result for the team. So close to the points on the scoreboard initially. Up to fourth place in the league, just one game v Ross High this Saturday to go.
