Earlier in the evening the hosts had beaten the Bruce Hay Chiefs and Trinity Accies to win Pool A, with Edinburgh University, Hawks and Gumboots the other pool victors.

In the first semi-final 'Muir saw off Gumboots 43-0 and, in the second, Hawks defeated Edinburgh University 47-14.

In the Ronnie Tait Plate, the Bruce Hay Chiefs and Murrayfield Wanderers reached the final with last-four wins over Watsonians and Lismore respectively.

The Chiefs, led by experienced Boroughmuir player Alan Sievewright, beat the young Wanderers side 27-21.
