Glasgow Warriors lock Richie Gray will be looking to cap off a memorable season as he targets three more games for the club – starting on Friday night against the Scarlets (7 May, kick-off 7.05pm).
The Warriors, who enter Friday night’s match knowing they have sealed a place in the inaugural Magners League play-offs, are now hoping to achieve home advantage with a good result at the Parc Y Scarlets.
Gray, who has not only notched eight of his 11 appearances for Glasgow this season, but won three caps for Scotland and signed a new deal to keep him in black and blue for two more years, today spoke of his desire to cap-off a memorable season with an historic finale.
“I’ve really enjoyed this season,” he said. “To play regularly for Glasgow is fantastic but to win my first few caps is something that I will never forget.
“It’s not usually the case that players are screaming out for more games at this stage of the season, but everyone is determined to extend this season as far as we can and that can only be helped by gaining home advantage in the play-offs.”
The Warriors have made five changes, one positional, to the side that defeated Leinster 30-6 at Firhill almost two weeks ago.
Gray’s return comes in place of Tim Barker whilst flanker John Barclay rests a shoulder injury making way for Calum Forrester. Forrester will slot in on the blindside moving Kelly Brown to openside.
In the backs, both wings are changed as Rob Dewey, who scored a try-double on his return from injury against the European champions, is given the nod ahead of Hefin O’Hare and Canadian international DTH van der Merwe is preferred to Scotland 7s specialist Colin Shaw.
Meanwhile, Warriors head coach Sean Lineen is expecting a ferocious encounter at the Parc Y Scarlets where he knows Glasgow will face a team buzzing with pride and quality.
“The Parc Y Scvarlets is a great stadium to play in,” he said.
“The Scarlets can really hurt you if you don’t go down there with the right attitude and they will be playing for pride. They certainly have a lot of it.
“They have some key players who pose significant attacking threats so I’ll be looking for a massive defensive effort and we’ll see what happens from there.”
