GLASGOW ACCIES RUGBY - SEASON 2010 / 11 Sat.17th. April,2010
We are delighted to announce the appointment of John Beattie as the Club coach for next
season. John’s return to New Anniesland, and to his home Club, comes at a time that is
right for both parties.
Two years ago Accies, very suddenly and sadly, lost their Coach, Gordon Mackay, who
had died at the very young age of 39.
Gordon had newly returned to the Club, and had had the vision of gaining promotion for
Accies, and at the same time helping to create a more vibrant and pleasant environment
for ALL Academicals to enjoy at New Anniesland.
However, following his untimely death, Donald Reid stepped into the breach, and has
worked tirelessly for the last two years to fulfil Gordon’s aspirations. Everyone in the
Rugby Section is aware of Donald’s huge commitment, and of the improvements he
has brought about, both in terms of structure and in the quality of rugby now being
played, since he became Director of Rugby.
Donald and myself both feel that the return of John Beattie is happening right when the
Club is ready to go to the next level, and we are delighted that John has chosen to return
at this time to help his old club. His record as coach at ‘West’ speaks for itself, having
taken them from Premier 3 to Premier 1.
Hopefully John will have less pressure at New Anniesland, enabling himself more time to
pursue new business challenges. Everyone in the Club is excited at the prospect of his
experience and leadership returning to Accies. GORDON WILSON(Chairman).
