Hawks S2 37.Gala Red Triangle 3
The writer has to marvel at the contrast between this game and Saturdays 1st XV match.Apart from the obvious(the S2s are made up of 13 year olds and are slightly smaller) the quality of refereeing on Sunday allowed our game to flow and thus the game was on the whole very enjoyable to watch.Thank you Mr McGowan. The less said about the contrast the better.
We had expected Gala to prove a far more formidable obstacle than they were. That is not to take anything away from the effort and commitment put in by their players but more a reflection on just how far our squad has come since last season.
From the outset the forwards dominated allowing the backs to demonstrate their quite superior handling skills.Time and time again the ball was taken against the head and fed out the line for score after score.10 tries to be precise and 7 kicks on target. Not a bad conversion rate at all with my own personal favourite being Kenny McGowans charge to the line knocking 4/5 opponents out of the way on route.
The holiday weekend beckons so no games this weekend. Our next match is at home to Greenock on the2nd Oct and the squad should hopefully be back to full strength by then( I would imagine that Greenock will not be holding out the same hope!).Here`s wishing Rory Tom and "Lippy"Swanson speedy recoveries.KO is at 1:00pm and the squad should meet at 12 noon.Keep up the good work boys and dont take your eyes off the final target.
