WARRIORS JOIN FORCES WITH GLASGOW'S FINEST RUGBY HEROES
21 May 2010
Former friends and foes from the rugby fields of Glasgow are rolling back the years - and all in a good cause.
The stars of Glasgow rugby from up to 30 years ago are re-uniting - with the support of Glasgow Warriors - to raise funds for a rugby charity.
Glasgow Rugby Friends Reunited ("GRFR") - better known as, John Beattie, Scott Grier, Kenny Hamilton Jim Taylor and Donald Wilson - are teaming up with Glasgow Warriors to organise a blast from the past, reminiscent of their playing days.
The event set to take place on Saturday 19 June at the Candleriggs in Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket will be raising money for The Hearts & Balls charitable trust.
The Hearts & Balls charitable trust is a rugby charity that ensures support to rugby players who have been seriously injured in the game. Hearts & Balls was established in 1999 and since then they have supported some 30 players.
With raffle prizes being donated by Glasgow Warriors, an exclusive performance by the highly acclaimed John Beattie Band and a series of awards to be presented - to pros and amateurs and players and fans alike - there is much to look forward to.
One of the main awards to be presented on the night is the GRFR Warrior of the Year. The award can be chosen by all Glasgow rugby supporters by visiting the Warriors website www.glasgowwarriors.org and selecting their favourite player from the online poll which can be found at http://www.glasgowwarriors.org/content/view/1996/117
Glasgow Warriors Chief Executive Kenny Baillie said: "Glasgow Warriors are delighted to support the Glasgow Rugby Friends Reunited fund-raising event on June 19.
"The work that Hearts & Balls is doing for young men and women unfortunate to be injured whilst playing rugby is tremendous and raising awareness and funds for the charity is the least the Warriors can do.
"I would encourage all rugby players and supporters to buy a ticket for the event and join in and enjoy a celebration of rugby in the city of Glasgow."
All fans and players are invited to the shenanigans, but we recommend you book your tickets quick!
