As the "greatest touring side in the world" the Barbarians prepare to take on England on Sunday it is worth recognising that no fewer than 29 players from Anniesland and Balgray have pulled on this famous jersey
Players from over the generations from Herbert Waddell and Jimmie Dykes to Wilson Shaw and Laurie Duff,Angus Cameron on to Brian Simmers and in more recent times Graeme Morrison,Scott Hutton and our 2nd xv coach tourist supremo Cammy Little
Few Scottish clubs have been honoured with a Barbarians match but one was Glasgow Accies who played them at New Anniesland in 1988 in honour of their long standing president Herbert Waddell
The match saw Accies conditioning coach Duncan Beattie taking on the likes of Will Carling
The Barbarian motto instituted by the Right Reverend W.J. Carey (former Bishop of Bloemfontein and an original member) which is: "Rugby Football is a game for gentlemen in all classes, but for no bad sportsman in any class".
