Learn about Sonia’s journey through athletics, from aspiring twelve year old, in Cobh, in County Cork to World 5,000m Champion in Gothenburg, in 1995; Winner of Double Gold in the 1998 World Cross-Country Championships, in Marrakech; followed by a European Championship Double, over 5,000m and 10,000m that summer and finally Olympic Silver, over 5,000m, in Sydney, in 2000.
Sonia holds every Irish record from 1,000m to half marathon and has a vast amount of knowledge to share with you, whether you are an aspiring youngster, a club runner chasing pb’s or simply running for fun. Sonia now classes herself as a fun runner and is a mum to Sophie and Ciara but still turned in 2:47 in last year’s Boston Marathon, raising thousands for charity in the process. She has even tried her hand at open water swimming in Nova’s Great North Swim, in Windermere and beat her age in minutes, for a mile.
We will also be joined by Lindsay Dunn, from Gateshead, former coaching advisor to Brendan Foster and Charlie Spedding, both winners of Olympic Bronze Medals and currently coaching an outstanding squad, including Nick McCormick 3:33 over 1,500m.
The evening will finish at around 9.30pm with a raffle for Nike kit and Sonia memo
