Weir on the money

Sunday, 13 June 2010

Scotland under-20 beat Tonga 27-3 in the final pool C IRB Junior World Championship match today at the Club Atletico Estudiantes in Argentina.
Stand-off Duncan Weir helped settle Scottish nerves with a fourth minute penalty before Jonny Kennedy crossed for Scotland’s first try of the tournament after 13 minutes. Weir converted the score before slotting another penalty after two Tongan missed attempts go in 13-0 up at the break.
Tonga took just two minutes of the second-half to get on the score board when scrum-half Manu Soatame made amends for his earlier miss with a kick at goal however Scotland crushed any hopes of a Tongan fight-back with tries from back-row Michael Maltman and captain Stuart McInally – both converted by Weir.
The Scots must now wait on the results of Fiji v Samoa and Argentina v Ireland to find who they’ll face in the first round of the tournament’s knock-out stage.
