DALZIEL Rugby Club President Paul Gracie believes the appointment of former Glasgow Hawks coach David Wilson as the club’s new first-team coach is a massive boost to their hopes of competing in Premier Three next season.
Wilson replaces SRU Coach of the season Jimmy Sinclair, who stepped down from his position at the end of last season for health reasons.
Having stormed to the National Division One title last term, Dalziel will now be playing in Premier Three for the first time.
A delighted Gracie said: “David brings to Dalziel an excellent record of success and we believe he is the right coach to lead our side into Premier Three next season.
“He brings to the club a wealth of experience that we need to maintain the momentum of our unbeaten run last year.
“David has coached at the highest level in Scottish club rugby and has an understanding of what we need to do to move up to the next level.”
Following a highly successful playing career where he captained Glasgow Hawks from 1997/99, winning promotion to Premier One in that time, school teacher Wilson moved into coaching in 2000.
After a one-year stint working alongside Scottish internationalist Shade Munro at the Hawks, he returned to the Glasgow club in 2005 where he remained Head Coach for three years during which time Hawks won the Premier One title and the Scottish Cup.
Most recently he has been coaching at Dunfermline RFC.
“Appointing a coach with this level of experience and ability demonstrates the ambition that Dalziel has and shows that we are not about to rest on our laurels following last season’s achievement.
“We want to push on to the next level and maintain the momentum that has been created.
“Jimmy Sinclair set the bar at a high level at Dalziel and I believe that David Wilson will set it even higher and that the players and others on the coaching staff will respond to the challenge.”
