Charlie Forsyth- sporting Legend

Charlie is retiring this week from working with rugby teams at OA. Many of you will know him as being involved with rugby at GHK and Hawks. A true gentleman he has worked tirelessly away in the background helping out for many years. Indeed Charlie's involvement started truly at birth as he was brought up in Skaterigg Farmhouse located at OA where the first car park is now.

As part of the famous Jordanhill College team that was ahead of its time due to high levels of fitness, Charlie was a committed player.. I remember seeing him play wing forward one week then dropping a goal from stand off the following week at OA. He was, and is, exceptionally strong and was an expert ripper of the ball. In a chin up dual with Scotland and GHK prop, Alan Watt. he was an easy winner.

He taught PE at the High School in Elmbank Street, Glasgow. Generations of boys learned their rugby skills and sense of fairplay from him. When GHSFP went open in 1971 one of the first "associate"`members was Charlie He played for High School then GHK with distinction.

Charlie was also involved with Hawks from its inception- a highlight was his chilling rendition of the St James' Infirmary Blues on a bus back from Aberdeen.

A pleasanter and more modest man you could not not hope to meet and all in the rugby community wish him well.
