The Nails
Almost every pundit had Heriots Rugby as pre-season favourites for the Championship this season. Not without good cause. The feeling at Goldenacre has been that they have the team, they just needed to strengthen their squad. Having done just that the surprise is that they have slipped up twice in early weeks but they will be determined to put maximum pressure on Hawks today. They also bring a brand of attractive rugby to Anniesland that is sure to entertain.
A warm welcome to players, coaches and supporters.

Happy Birthday to New Anniesland
100 years of sporting endeavour and highlights is being celebrated at this famous old ground. The ghosts of rugby past will be heard discharging their plaintive cry “run like a stag, Accies”
The choice of the Heriots fixture to mark the occasion arose from the historic nature of the contest where in 1926 a crowd of 10,000 turned out at New Anniesland to see Glasgow Accies face Heriots.
Another match a that time against Heriots had to be transferred from Goldenacre to Inverleith to accommodate an attendance of approx 18,000 – what we would give to see such numbers at club matches these days.
It promises to be a good though with groundsman Robert Cheape having prepared the pitch to its usual high standard there are no excuses for not having entertaining rugby.

National Team Caoch
The restructure of Scottish Rugby continues with the appointment of Frank as supremo of the International squad. He is the first national team coach to have come through the Scottish professional system and his understanding of the strains within that system will, I think prove invaluable in developing the right kind of relationship with the other parts of the game. Frank is a determined and committed individual and intelligent enough to appreciate the need to make the different elements of the sport in Scotland work together. We will see a much higher level of cooperation from the national team with the pro teams and the clubs.
A good appointment and one that will be put to an early test during the autumn series. Let’s hope for good performances and support and maybe one or two wins.
