The Final....LGFM [Accies] v The Hammermen...810pm Hughenden..
Report by a newly retired Accie
Accies had a full squad to choose from in the match to end all matches against 'the refs' side on Thursday night...accies started strongly with great runs from Stu Low, and kenny Sinclair who probed effectively keeping the favourites on the back foot, entertaining the vociferous travelling support [4 plus umbrella!]
accies took a deserved lead with typical style and panache, throwing the ball around with confidence and gusto ending in a try for our internationalist Kenny Sinclair.[ although he is getting on a bit now!!]
Accies then soaked up a great deal of pressure, defending with assured experience which in the end forced a loose pass, and Richard McKnight intercepted, and with only himself to beat, outstripped the cover to dash fully 60 metres for the score...his hair may have gone grey but his legs still have a bit bounce and longevity....!!
Accies conceded a boring try from the hammermen on half time..2 1 accies...
The 2nd half was a battle with the elements as the rain pelted down throughout. The Hammermen eventually wore the accies defence down to equalise 2 2..as extra time loomed Beaver got himself binned for chat back to the ref [something this scribe knows nothing about!] which left us to face extra time a man down....1st score wins. accies pressed but tiredness was beginning to set in and a well executed loop move saw one of the hammermen squeeze in at the corner for the winning try despite a despairing dive from Stu Smith....Runners up in the tournament was a good effort from all that took part over the 10 weeks...
By all accounts the accies [LGFM] boys partied afterwards as if they had won anyway, lead by captain Matt Smith, so everyone's a winner!!!!
