Glasgow Hawks Rugby Club Canniesburn Care Home

Citius, Altius, Fortius.

Athleticism has always rested easily with the Hawks thoroughbreds and this is being added to this year with the arrival of Callum Sharp and the return of Jonathon Byrne-Leitch the former a pole vaulter of note and the latter a more than useful sprinter
Callum represented Scotland at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in the colours of that great East End institution Shettleston Harriers whilst Jonathon sprinted in the blue and white of Scotstoun's anchor club Victoria Park A A C winning medals at Scottish age group level in the 200 metres
They follow a long tradition of rugby players from Anniesland/Balgray who have also competed with distinction in track and field like Tom Connell who set a Scottish 440 yds record and helped found Glasgow HSFP --Ginger Macleod who won the Scottish 120 yds Hurdles title--Robert Stronach who won a hatrick of British titles in the same event at venues like Stamford Bridge and Arthur Robertson who won Olympic Gold over 3 miles .In slightly more recent times we had our own version of Bob Beamon in the form of Bill Dunlop
In athletics parlance if you want to be a good sprinter make sure you choose your parents carefully and of course this has certainly helped the Gossman brothers with father Jimmie playing for Scotland on the wing but also mother Hilary who was more than useful on the track and of course sister Nicola who was an outstanding sprinter
Todays Warriors Touch Tournament(report to follow) allowed Hilary to turn the clock back a couple of years to her sprinting days on the Scotstoun track
