As the European Athletics Championships come to a conclusion today with the relays Britain can look back on a good championships
This allows us to recall the exploits of a GHK winger of not too long ago
Brian Whittle ran for Ayr Seaforth and played rugby with GHK.He also helped organise the Hawks trips to Paris and Rome in more recent times
Despite being European Champion and competing at the Olympics, Brian
is best remembered for helping Britain to a relay gold in the 1986
European Championships when he ran the third leg of 4x400m race with
one shoe
On the athletics track, Brian represented Scotland in the Commonwealth
Games and Great Britain in the European and World Championships and
the Olympic Games. A multi-disciplined runner, he specialised in the
400m, 800m and 400m hurdles, winning three European 4x400m titles, two
European indoor silvers and a Commonwealth silver, as well as
finishing fifth in the World and Olympic 4x400m relays.
