Weir starts against Wasps

Glasgow Warriors’ young guns have been given a chance to shine in the side's final pre-season friendly against London Wasps at Adams Park on Saturday (ko 3.00pm).
The match is the final opportunity for players to stake a claim for their place in the 22 that will face Leinster at Firhill in the opening game of the 2010/11 Magners League season the following weekend.
Head coach, Sean Lineen, said: “London Wasps are an incredibly physical team who have quality throughout and players who can cause havoc. It’ll be a huge test.
“Despite having some injuries, there’s still a lot of competition for places with an opportunity for players to put their hands up for selection.
“There are no points on offer in a friendly; we’re going down there to gain momentum in our performance and to get certain aspects of our game right to face Leinster.”
The Warriors’ starting half backs feature two of Glasgow’s youngest prospects in 19 year-old stand-off, Duncan Weir, who gets his first start for the Warriors against professional opposition, along side 21-year old Henry Pyrgos, who debuted in the previous friendly against Sale Sharks.
The backline is bolstered by Scotland centres Graeme Morrison and Max Evans, while the increasingly impressive DTH Van Der Merwe is joined by fans’ favourites Hefin O'Hare, on the opposite wing, and Bernardo Stortoni, who captains from full-back.
Young talent is also prominent in starting pack as Jon Welsh and Moray Low pack down either side of hooker, Fergus Thomson.
New signing Tom Ryder partners Richie Gray at second-row as Stevie Swindall, Calum Forrester and Richie Vernon start in the back-row.
