Good afternoon all Accies Rugby Supporters,
After the short summer break welcome to the new rugby season. Tomorrow, at New Anniesland, kick off 3-00pm, Accies play Newton Stewart in the first league encounter of season 2010-2011. All the preparatory work is done and the pre-season friendlies have been played, now it is the real thing. At this stage the new season thoughts come into mind, are we fit enough, are we match hardened, have we got the right team blend etc.The adrenaline will run, the nerves will jangle and then it will all be revealed when the whistle blows to start the first game.
If the pre season game against West of Scotland and the performances in the final games of last season are a foretaste of things to come we should see an Accies side that can run and handle if they get a decent supply of the ball. The team that has been selected is:
15 Ross Chassels
14 Mike Hermes
13 Stewart Smith (Captain)
12 Dougie Horner
11 Craig Wright
10 Ali Mclaren
9 Alan Wilson
1 Jamie Corskry
2 Matteo Giovanazzi
3 Matt Franklin
4 Robert Fuller
5 Adam Taylor
6 Chris Wright
7 Andy Jackson
8 Jack Walker
16 David Calder
17 Claudio Urra
18 Max Henderson
There are relatively few changes from last season with all the replacements coming with a fair degree of experience. Ross Chassels, a former captain of the 1st XV replaces Brad Bell who is still in the USA, Alan Wilson is back from injury and comes in for Richard Mcknight at scrum half. In the pack Jamie Corskry is back at prop after a spell at Hawks. Adam Taylor has joined Accies from the highly successful Dumfries Club and Robert Fuller a 6'-8", 21stone second rower has come up from a spell in the 2nd XV
There are still players away on various missions, honeymoon, medical duties, work and exams. In time they will be back to strengthen the squad. It seems therefore that there will be a squad large enough to cope with a 22 game league programme.
