Coal Porters hit Accies

Wednesday the 27th of Oct the Coal Porters
The Coal Porters will be appearing at the Accies Club and are the world’s first 'alt-bluegrass' act and enjoy a reputation as one of the UK’s most entertaining acoustic ensembles. Firmly established on the European circuit, The Coal Porters are recently back from a Spring tour of the USA where they were a showcase artist at South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas and will be returning to the States in September to play the prestigious Americana Festival in Nashville. Check the Coal Porters out if you dig quick pickin’, warm harmony vocals, contemporary themed original songs and the wittiest stage announcements this side of The Comedy Store.
Their new album Durango was released on January 25, 2010 on Prima Records Ltd., distributed in the UK by Proper and in the USA by Burnside. The CD features nine original songs from the pens of Sid Griffin and Neil Herd, a Dick Smith tune featuring Tim O'Brien on mandolin, covers of Neil Young's 'Like A Hurricane', traditional tune 'Sail Away Ladies!' and Peter Rowan's 'Midnight Moonlight' on which Peter duets with Carly Frey, as well as a short documentary film on the band encoded in the disc. Durango was produced by the legendary Ed Stasium (Ramones, Smithereens, Belinda Carlisle, Mick Jagger, etc.) just outside the Colorado town which gave the CD its name. Friends and Coal Porter insiders are saying this is the best album of the band’s career and the grooviest work ex-Long Ryder Sid Griffin has ever done.
