Glasgow Hawks 27-24 DundeeHS
Another edge of the seat 80mins, last week it was last move of the game to win it, this week far more comfortable- winning score with a whole 2mins left!!!
Scrappy game throughout, lead changed hands every few mins. Sean Murray scored in corner after 5mins after good pickup and pass from Jonno Wright. Dundee went ahead after poor one-on-one tackles 5-7 after 13mins. Better spell from Hawks, good leadup work and Mike Martin gave Callum Taylor space with long pass, Callum made yards before flicking ball behind back for Mark Taylor to finish with pace. 12-7. Dundee upped pressure before half-time and more missed tackles allowed try beside posts. 12-14 at H-T. 2nd half more structured apart from Hawks' 3rd try- kick thru' and ricochet off unlucky Dundee defender led to foot race by Mike Martin to get touchdown ahead of Johnny Potter and Dundee winger. 17-14 but lead didn't last long, Dundee kicking pen for offside 56mins. Set-piece struggled all day, giving poor supply of decent ball for backs, came to a head when Dundee got push-over try. No.8 knocked on but ref felt his hands were part of his knees(!) and awarded try. Good conv made it 17-24 and Hawks staring defeat in face. Stu Low came on with 20mins to go and looked threatening throughout. After 72mins finished off good move from a stable scrum, made it 22-24, ref whistled that conv was good, everyone thought it now 24 each. Hawks unaware that he changed his mind!! , and we played next 5mins thinking it was a draw, in fact still losing?! Tempo increased significantly , pressure on Dundee, good rucking and ball into space for Johnny Potter to make his trademark powerful break down the middle and past last line of defence. 27-24. Scrambled thru' the last 2mins for another heart-stopping victory.
