Under 16's beat GHA

GHA 10 Hawks Under 16's 41
On the game, first and foremost well done. We won the game relatively comfortably, however, we all need to work harder on our support play.
Too many times our players were getting isolated, and GHA were winning the breakdowns. Whilst the referee seemed to be penalising us quite a lot, we have to learn to play to that, and react to quick penalties etc.
Having said all that, some of the tries were after some great interplay and offloading where the support players were there, but we could have scored several more.
Defensively they only scored twice, and one of those scores was when we all fell asleep and they took a quick penalty and ran through for a soft score.
Some of the tackling was fantastic, and Ian Allen and Duncan Reece put in a couple of great hits.
Jamie controlled the game well and Toby ran some great lines and scored a couple of tries.( It would have been a hat rick, but for an honest coach/touch judge from Hawks? Didn’t want him to have to buy the jugs!)
Both scrum half’s serviced and linked well and we still looked in control with Jack at Standoff. Dodge also put in some great defensive work.
Darren straightened well once he got on and was great in defensive duties.
Chris, Dougie and James scummaged well and all looked good in open play. Dougie scored a great try in the corner by running straight, so keep that up. That good work was continued when Euan came on.
William and Charlie did all that was asked of them , and William came close in the first half, with Charlie winning more than his share of lineout both on our ball and on the opposition ball.
The back row were everywhere, Anton unfortunately succumbing to injury, but Callum, Fergus and Fraser continuing the good work throughout the game. Some of the turnovers they won were out of the top drawer.
Ben was solid at the back, and Magnus, Ross and Eoghan on the wings had some great runs, with Eoghan giving the pass for one of Toby’s tries. All showed good skills in defence as well, and Ross scored a great try in the second half.

Well done to one and all, and remember that we have to support a player making a break, play the referee, and stay alert. Other teams that we will play against are likely to be stronger, but we have to have a killer instinct to concentrate, communicate and finish!
