ANDY IN RUGBY LEAGUE CALLUP

Squad For European Nations Cup
By GW - September 29 2005
Scotland have included seven Super League players and four from the Conference in the squad for the European Nations Cup. Hull scrum-half Danny Brough, who starred in their recent Powergen Challenge Cup Final triumph over Leeds, retains his place and Huddersfield Giant Wayne McDonald returns. >
Four have played for Scotland at rugby union: Hull KR winger Jon Steel won five caps before switching codes this year, while his club-mate Gareth Morton (ex Glasgow and Borders) was in the national squad last year, and winger Dougie Flockhart (Currie) and forward Iain Morrison (Huddersfield Giants) have played for Scotland at Under-21 and Under-19 World Cups respectively.

Another four of the squad play in the domestic Scottish Conference: wingers Andy McPhail (Clyde Bulls/Glasgow Hawks) and Andy Brown (Fife Lions) and forward pair Dave Simm (Edinburgh Eagles) and Steve Deviney (Easterhouse Panthers).

Totally new to the Scotland set-up are Bradford Bulls hooker Ian Henderson, who joins brother Andrew in the squad, Gateshead full-back Wade Liddell, and prolific goalkicking centre Mick Nanyn who plays for Scotland coach Steve McCormack at Whitehaven.

The squad will gather on Monday 10 October to prepare to play Wales in Bridgend on Sunday 16 October and Ireland in Glasgow Hawks on Sunday 23 October. Two victories will see them through to the European Cup Final for the first time. Last year Scotland beat Wales at Glasgow Hawks before losing in Ireland. The previous year they lost at home to Ireland before winning in France.
