YOUNG Glasgow stand-off Duncan Weir will be out of action for ten weeks after it emerged he suffered a fractured shoulder playing for Scotland A against the USA Eagles at Netherdale last week.
Weir has enjoyed a successful season and caught the eye at No??10 when Ruaridh Jackson was injured, and is a leading prospect for the future, so the injury represents a setback to his recent progress.
Alastair Kellock will captain a depleted Glasgow side in today's Magners League meeting with Cardiff Blues.
Glasgow coach Sean Lineen is without numerous front-line players through injury and international call-ups and is aware the Warriors, led by second row Kellock, who captained Scotland to last summer's series win in Argentina, will face a stern test in south Wales.
Lineen said: "Cardiff had a tough game against Ulster last weekend and got beaten at home so we know what we're going to expect from them. "It's going to be pretty physical and pretty brutal I would imagine.
"It's a challenging season, so with 13 players unavailable for selection due to various reasons, this represents a massive opportunity for those named today. "It's at times like these when you find out what these guys are made of."
As well as the injured Weir, Glasgow will be missing Canada winger DTH van der Merwe who is unavailable due to a facial injury.
Chris Cusiter (knee), Johnnie Beattie (shoulder) and James Eddie (shoulder) remain long-term absentees.
Lineen is rightly proud of Glasgow's contribution to the international cause as the Warriors have been the best represented club in Scotland match-day 22s over the opening fortnight of the EMC Autumn Tests and that trend is set to continue as eight Warriors are included in the Scotland squad for their third and final match against Samoa today.
"Obviously there are a number of Warriors players representing Glasgow in the Scotland set-up which we are very proud of," Lineen continued. "Results for the Scotland team, like the one over South Africa, should invigorate everyone. It's fantastic."
