HAWKS UNDER 15S BEAT KILLIE

Kilmarnock 5 Glasgow Hawks 30

The Under 15s travelled to Kilmarnock today buoyed by their showing last
week against league leaders Greenock.

The match kicked off in wintry conditions on a muddy pitch.

Hawks immediately put their opponents under pressure, forcing them onto the
back foot. The Hawks were dominant in the scrum pushing the Kilmarnock scrum
back and round at just about every scrum. This resulted in the crowd witnessing
the referee instructing the Hawks not to drive in the scrum as we were winning
the ball !!

Hawks took the lead with a well worked lineout move resulting in prop Kris
MacDonald charging through the Kilmarnock defence to touch down to the left
of the posts. The conversion attempt bounced off the upright. 7-0 Hawks.

Hawks extended their lead when No8 Jamie Murphy finished off a sustained
attack with a solo drive to the line.

Kilmarnock then put Hawks under some pressure resulting in a try being awarded.
Unfortunately the ref was unsighted or he would surely have seen the ball
being dropped over the line.

Hawks continued to dominate the game without being able to take total control
due to Kilmarnock's spirited defence.

The second half play was almost all in Kilmarnock's half and, as the young
Hawks started to turn the screw, Kilmarnock were forced to kick away any
possession that came their way.

The Hawks forwards began to take control and this allowed the backs to start
opening up the Kilmarnock defence.

Ollie McInnes was the next on the score sheet after slicing through the remnants
of Kilmarnock's defence after a multi phased move by the Hawks combining
forwards and backs.

Euan Robertson provided the fourth try, again after excellent rugby by the
team.

Ollie McInnes grabbed his second try after a quick tap penalty, racing through
the Kilmarnock defence.

Not to be outdone, captain Kris MacDonald completed the scoring with a great
individual effort, running in down the wing from around half way and outpacing
the Kilmarnock defence for his second and Hawks sixth try. Not bad for a
prop - I guess Nick Cox' s input at Wednesday training must have had an effect!

The game drew to a close with Hawks looking to increase their lead, playing
some fine running rugby.

Final Score

Kilmarnock 5 (1 try) Glasgow Hawks 30 (6 tries)

Many thanks to Nick Cox and Bob Tomlinson for their time and input at last
Wednesday' training session. Their advice was greatly appreciated by the
team.

Medical Update:

Michael Ferguson is now off his crutches , but still undergoing physio for
his ligament injury. Keep at it Michael - all at Hawks wish you well and
look forward to your return

Gregor Hogg is home from hospital - his ribs are not broken - although he'll
be sore for some time. All the team send best wishes for a speedy recovery.
