GHK News - The View from the First Man Over the Top
Westminster Abbey, or Victory.
‘The secret of all victory lies in the organization of the non-obvious’.
Oswald Spengler (1880-1936), German Historian who enjoyed listening to Beethoven
Men, what this will involve is clear. It will involve the immediate prioritisation of the Regiment with at least 18 men, who should, in my opinion, be chosen upon the principle of universal liability to service, and also the authorisation of subsequent additional increments of equal skill so soon as they may be needed and can be handled in training. It is our duty.
While we do these things, these deeply momentous things in our great game, Rugby Union, let us be very clear and make very clear to all the league what our motives and our objects are. Our object now, as at the pre-season, is to continue the momentum of such a concert of purpose and of action as will henceforth ensure our ascent. Cunningly contrived plans of running lines or aggression, can be worked out and kept from the light only within the privacy of the fence but must be saluted in full from the first whistle.
We have no selfish ends to serve. We desire conquest and upward mobility for our club. We seek no indemnities for ourselves, no material compensation for the sacrifices we shall freely make. We are but one of the champions of the rights of mankind. These, then, are the things we must do, and do well, besides enjoyment--the things without which mere playing would be fruitless.
The supreme test of the Regiment has come. We must all speak, act and serve together!

Yours as always, running towards the gunfire. 11am Flying Scotsman. Pulling armpit hairs. Never wearing white boots. The need to pee at five to three. Forwards should always hunt in packs. Grasp the waistband. Never face the grass and never put your hands on backwards. Challenge your twilight hours. Teamtalks in the showers are the German way. Altos Band. Pate Pies. Cammy Little’s novel. One Name.

Supporting Note: As if his work wasn’t enough. Brecko now needs a Young Professional to rent. Coincidence? I think not….
