The day GHK were World 7s champs - for 3 hours.
The attached photo shows former GHK scrum-half Gordon McClymont catching up with the best 7s player in the history of the game Waisale Serevi at the Las Vegas Tournament.
He also took the opportunity to remind him that GHK beat Fiji, the World Champions at the time, at the Caldy 7s. (This was in the qualifying section. GHK lost to Bristol in the 1/4 final while Fiji went on to win the Tournament).
Favourite memory (this is a story best told by Shade). Fiji kick off. They score within 6 seconds and we haven't seen, never mind, touched the ball.
Lining up for the conversion (it was a while ago, and you still did that in those days), Shade Munro (Glasgow's forwards coach) notices that the Serevi is very close to us as he sets up the conversion. "I think I can charge this" he says.
Serevi makes a slight twitch with his head in preparation, Shade throws his six and a half foot frame full-length towards the maestro and lands about 2 feet short. Serevi looks down at Shade a bit bemused, takes his trade-mark one step run-up and slots the conversion!
Despite the severe embarrassment the Big Man has a stormer and we go on to beat Fiji and declare ourselves unofficial World Champs. This lasted just 2 more games and about 3 hours until we lost, quite heavily I think, to Bristol.
