A Tale of Two Cities (cont)
Last Saturday's 2nd xv match against Aberdeen GSFP cannot go unremarked in regard to the performance of one of the "fast men" of Hawks
Sean Murray was called in to travel with the Hawks 1st xv to Goldenacre (as cover for Craig Gossman)
When Gossie passed his fitness test the bold Sean headed back along the M8 to Old Anniesland,so having warmed up in Edinburgh he now played in Glasgow
He then proceeded to put points on the board on the pitch hopefully he put no points on his licence on the M8 getting there
Listed in the Grammar side was former Hawk Mark Oatey another who is gifted with fast twitch muscles
There is always debate over the years about who has been the fastest at Hawks with Sean being one of the candidates
However that was always disputed by Anglo Hawk Stu Dunk another who was fleet of foot and who recalls in vivid detail the pre season of 2008 when he took the rest over a challenge 40 metres
His athletic prowess must have been recognised as he is now a member of Lord Coe's Procurement Team for the London Olympics
All of which is nothing to do with Hawk 2nds win on Saturday so read on

Glasgow Hawks 23-11 Aberdeen GS
On this evidence Aberdeen should avoid relegation. They played a controlled aggressive game, won breakdown battle in first half and stand-off's sniping runs caused probs. Penalty for offside 0-3 after 15mins. Hawks never got game going, struggled to get ball at breakdown and under increasing pressure. Aberdeen scored after 30mins, combo of good phases and poor defence, try in corner. 0-8 HT.
Credit to team for turning game around quickly. Mike Martin pen for offside in front of posts, 3-8, 50mins. But Aberdeen fighting hard got immediate pen for Hawks overtop, 3-11. Several personal/positional changes refocused game plan. New tactic of warming up in one city and playing in another seemed to help full back sub to bring an extra zip and pace to our attacks!! Great cross kick from Mike Martin was bundled into touch by Aberdeen. Quick thinking got early throw straight to Ally Maxwell who beat the cover and finished a fab bit of clever rugby. Mike's conv 13-11 after 64mins. On front foot now Hawks attacking from deeper as confidence grew.
Length of field attack ended with attacking lineout 15m out. Catch and patient drive ended on line where deft reverse pass from Paddy put Tom Steven in at corner. 18-11, 66mins. Only one team in it as Hawks controlled possession. Lineout on own 10m line, in to midfield, great line break by Robbie McGregor, off-load to Robert Wilson who attacked space between 2 defenders and another deft off-load to Sean "super-sub" Murray who finished the last 40metres. Foot note- Mark Oatey almost caught him!! Maybe too much travelling in one day??
Determination to fix things was impressive and team showed good skills and ingenuity in tries scored. Final 23-11.
