This scribe normally likes to shine a positive light on Accies performances, however there’s not much positive to be said about Accies first half performance yesterday. Quite simply it was the worst I’d seen the team play in 4 or 5 years. Glens were competent, bolstered by the introduction of their coach (former Hawks no.8 Mark Sitch) in a playing capacity, and deserved their half time lead of 22 – 8. (Three tries to one via Mike Hermes)
The second half started no better as Glens got a fourth try to lead 27 – 8.
Finally, Accies began to find some kind of form and Stuart Seaton managed to drive over in the corner for a try (converted by Ali McLaren) 27 – 15. Slowly but surely Accies clawed their way back and two McLaren penalties were a fair reward for the improvement in Accies play to pull Accies back to 27 – 21.
With 10 minutes to go Accies had all the momentum and enough time to get a winning try. However, wave after wave of Accies attacks were being repulsed and as fate would have it, Glens’ winger intercepted a pass on their 22m line and scampered up the pitch for the try to seal the game. 34 – 21.
From an Accies perspective, the second half was certainly better but overall, Glens deserved their win and Accies will have to regroup and work on where they go from here.
