Glasgow Hawks 53-10 Currie

Tone of match set by Tom Steven's big hit on kick-off receiver!!! Hawks put pace on game straight away and never let up. Work off the ball and improved breakdown skills gave a massive supply of quick ball. Relentless pressure on Currie got bonus point before half-time. Mike Martin pen first then after stretching Currie back and across pitch , quick tap pen got first try for Mike. 8-0. Another quick pen got ball wide and superb support running put Callum Harvey into corner, 13-0. Pace and intensity set always runs risk of mistakes and the odd pass going down kept score static till 36mins. Currie under huge pressure , drop ball in midfield, kick thru' by Tom Steven, hint of a knock-on and Mike Martin finished in corner, before slotting great conv. 20-0. Tom Steven ran amok all afternoon and after quick hands from right, he finished from 40metres , thru' several Currie tackles! 25-0 HT.
Currie dug in to avoid a landslide and for next 30mins a try each. First Tom Steven given a wee gap and did the rest , Mike conv 32-0. Then after surviving a Hawks onslaught, helped by wrong options and passes going astray as pace increased, Currie ran a midfield move , Hawks got defensive line wrong and try scored to right of posts. 32-5. Hawks replacements all on and helping to keep tempo up, including long awaited return of Steven Leckey. Tom Preece, now at 13, got line speed spot on and intercepted midfield pass, after Currie struggled at scrum, and strolled over . Robbie McGregor conv for 39-5. Straight from kick-off Hawks attacked from deep and Tom Steven completed hat trick running length of park. Purchase of jug still due!! Robbie added for 46-5. Tempo still high, support running best of season and after multiple phases, Robbie exploited tired defence and stepped between 10 and 12 for 8th try of day. 53-5 after he added conv. Currie kept their highlight for last move of game as stand-off put in cross-kick to right corner for winger to score. Final 53-10.
Performance like this too sporadic for talented team. Put in perspective when Currie coach asked how we had lost other games if we can play like that!!! Food for thought?
