GHK News - The View from the First Man Over the Top
I Know How To Solve all Scottish Rugby’s Worries.
‘The role of a forward is not to hang about promiscuously waiting for something to turn up but to follow up.’
From a Victorian era coaching manual via Hugh Barrow K.T.
Men. Old Anniesland should be the capital of Scotland.
Without the acceptance of this premise by all there can be no solution to our modern dilemmas. If any one could conceive of a Scotland having its most stable, honourable, determined and united force as its centre as a shining exemplar of team spirit then I would envision a Scotland that would follow its example. Indeed, there would be no touchlines rows with O.A. at the head.
And why does O.A. have the right? Because O.A. is where officers are not made, bestowed or granted but rather they are forged. Forged of a material of such strength, durability and character that there cannot be any imitations. This truth being felt instinctively by all who cross our path, and asserted abroad by all who tour, as is demonstrated every Saturday at 3:00pm. Even in the most rugged Highlands of our palatinate.
And yet, Men, this truth is susceptible. The Regiment has still much to do before it can rest upon such a staple basis; much to do in facing our nearest opposers; much to do in overcoming the obstacles which time-honoured traditions have opposed to this great undertaking. And if this end must be compassed, it is essential that there shall be no cause of dissidence or of failure. Until the suggestion of O.A being the capital is determined, we must continue our united face towards the endless discords from different municipalities.
It is easy to understand how this person of good faith, cultured and talented, is now suggesting on historical and artistic grounds, the advisability of establishing our capital within the realms of our simple black fence. Such a discussion however must be put on hold. The prize is still to be won.
God be with The Regiment and bless GHK!
