Team Captain waits

The Melrose flanker and coach was sent off in the top-of-the-table clash with Glasgow Hawks on Saturday after receiving two yellow cards. He will appear before a Murrayfield panel tonight with the most likely sanction to be either that the red card and the fact he missed much of the game is deemed to have been sufficient punishment and he is now free to play, or that the incidents that led to the two yellow cards are deemed worthy of a suspension, which would rule him out of this week's fixture.

Dalziel captained the Scotland club team against France in their first match of the season, which they lost 30-18 in Orleans. Coached by Currie's Ally Donaldson, they return to Galashiels on Friday night (7.30pm ko) to take on Ireland's Club International side, and aiming to follow the example of Scotland 'A' who beat Ireland A 32-13 at Netherdale in January.

Scott Wight, the Melrose stand-off, will retain his place in the team, however and, with a good win over Glasgow Hawks, which puts 'Rose in the driving seat for this season's Premier One Championship, he is excited about the challenge.

He said: "It has been a bit of a strange season with the league split, the British and Irish cup, Border League games that we've had recently on Tuesday nights, back to the league and now the club international but, when you're winning, you'll take it all.

"After that big game at the weekend we were back at training last night alongside Hawks boys in the club team, and we're all now fighting for the same cause, which has been good too. The British and Irish Cup has been a massive plus for me and Melrose this season, as well as the Ayr and Currie boys, learning the intensity and physicality that you need to play these games at and I'm hoping that it will stand us in good stead for this club game.

"It's international rugby so it's a big step-up for everybody in terms of skill, pace of the game and physicality, so everyone looks forward to this because it's a change from the club game and has that extra challenge."

The club internationals were launched in 2006 with a Scotland-Ireland fixture in Dublin. The results have gone with the home side in the five games to date with the Scots winning at Meggetland and Myreside. Their only previous match at Netherdale at this level finished in a 13-9 win over the French last year.

Wight added: "The internationals have been a great addition to the club game and I hope we get a good support back in the Borders this week.

"It's a great honour to be selected for your country and the way you get treated, put up at a hotel for the Thursday and Friday, fed and looked after, makes you feel pretty special. Like an internationalist, I suppose.
