Tale of Two Cities-- the sequel

Glasgow Hawks 31-8 Stew/ Mel

Hawks played with real intensity and pace from start. Paddy's constant energy got us on front foot, helped by having "ref in my pocket!". Sean Murray hit great line from scrum 40metres out and couldn't fail to hear Milto Hamilton's scream for an inside pass. 7-0 after 14mins with Robbie McGregor's conv. Stew/Mel offside in midfield after 25mins , Robbie pen 25mins.  Immediately cancelled by our own offside in midfield, 10-3.  Real shape to how we were  playing , but lack of composure in final third kept scoreboard static. Eventually clicked after 37mins, good forward breenges by Paul Henderson , Andy Hill et al set field position for Sean to find a wee gap and finish from a distance. Robbie extras for 17-3. H-T.

Some excellent continuity and support play throughout the 2nd half, although Stew Mel were more competitive and direct after the break. They exposed the fact that we were leaving too many out of the breakdown - as a result of us trying to be expansive without first concentrating on securing ball.

After about 15 minutes we disrupted a Stew Mel scrum on the halfway line and were awarded a penalty. Tom S took the penalty quickly and powerhoused his way into their 22 (as he did most of the game). Quick recycling allowed the ball to pass through Paddy and Robbie to Robert Wilson who ignored the grumpy old men Victor Low and Jack Hamilton outside him to carry 3 defenders over and score. Robbie converted for 24-3.

Stew Mel were in the ascendency for the next 10mins and scored from lost Hawks lineout on halfway, with strong running and decent support (24-8). They could have had another shortly after however Hawks also had 2 good opportunities after length of the field moves and great handling. Impatience and a lack of composure ten yards from the line cost us a couple of scores.
Our last score came from more good team handling to set up field position in their 22. Having done the hard work we again panicked and knocked the ball on however we stole the resultant Stew Mel scrum from which Hoggy fed left to Paddy and on to Robbie whose miss pass allowed Gav McD to step inside the cover and touch down. Robbie converted for 31-8 at full time.

2nd half scribed by Cameron L. Due to Sean doing another mid-afternoon dash from Edinburgh to cover for Davie Milne. Only difference was he scored his try before getting in the car!! And I was driving!!
