Cup comes out of the mist

Cup finals loom out of mist
Out of the mist and freezing fog of winter and cup finals day is only a month away — and while we have reached the quarter-final stage of most of the events, the draws are chock full of eithers/ors.

West of Scotland and Glasgow Hawks play off to determine who has the right to host defending champions Ayr next week, and, in the meantime, Dundee HSFP are away to Boroughmuir, Hawick host Currie, and Heriot's take on championship favourites Melrose at Goldenacre on Sunday.

For Dundee, it's a chance to inject a little meaning into a season that has fizzled out in disappointing fashion in Premier A play, when the team seemed poised for an exciting winter before the weather interruption.

In an effort to get everything completed, Dundee have agreed to make the match a cup and Premier A double-header, thereby giving up their last home league game this season in the hope of having one last home game, as that would be the already-drawn semi-final against West or Hawks or Ayr.

Beating 'Muir away is not an insurmountable task given the Edinburgh side have also slumped since the enforced break, and that the 30-20 defeat in the league earlier in the season is, by common consent, their worst league performance of the season.
