Glasgow Hawks 36-7 Boroughmuir
Fantastic game, great entertainment for the watching Hawks 1st XV. Had to withstand a 10min onslaught from 'Muir, defence rock solid as opposition played with skill , pace and off-loads. Last week it took a whole 37mins for the Sean Murray hat-trick, how long would we wait this? As it happened , the 30mins was his quickest of the season!! Stats stand at 30 tries for season, 27 for 2's !!! First proper Hawks possession of game , got quick ruck ball to Stu Low , who stood up a couple and gave great inside ball to Milto Hamilton. Sean appeared on his shoulder to finish from 30m, Mike Martin conv. 2nd on 22mins- great breenge by Dave Ferguson, 2 passes wide to Jonno , onto Sean who chipped ahead and the inevitable great bounce produced an awesome finish. Old adage of creating your own luck??!! 3rd of trick - great scrummaging, Mike step and go, Tom Steven broke defensive line and terrific offload to man of moment, the rest is history! 17-0 HT.
Having lost a big 1st half lead at Meggetland there was no chance of a repeat with the attitude displayed throughout. Hawks always trying to play fast tempo, ref stopped 3 quick line-outs but couldn't find anything wrong with quick tap pen after 48mins. Paddy Boyer to Mike , who "danced" down touch line, before text book 2-on1 pass to Mark Tails. Finish burst 'Muir defence from 40m. Mike conv, 24-0. Long spell ensued of 'Muir attack and Eddie " the Ref" whistle. Defence severely tested for next 20mins and it seemed the ref's patience as every decision went 'Muir's way. Final pen/free-kick count 24-6 against!!! Eventually 'Muir speedy winger got round the outside as we lost defensive shape, 24-7. Some of best rugby of season saved for last 10mins. With young prop, Craig, at forefront of everything. Whole game forwards had set great platform and impressive contact skills created go forward ball for the scores. Good line-out ball allowed Chris Breck to give a "disguised" inside ball to Mike M, off-load to Rory H and pop to Craig at pace, who shredded defence and dragged last 2 defenders over line for brilliant score. Brecko conv, 31-7. If that was good , last was even better! A proper team score, Mini Mitchell in it twice, Rory, Carvery etc set up position for Craig to score at pace in corner. 2 tries by a prop in one game, not had one in previous 19 games?? Final 36-7
