GHK update from Ally F

GHK News - The View from the First Man Over the Top

Running On West Sands

‘Most people run a race to see who is fastest.  I run a race to see who has the most guts’.
Steve Prefontaine (1951 –1975) Inspiration to the running ‘boom’.

The Regiment’s Men have good leaders. Great leaders who are worthy of them in every way. I have seen these leaders at work, and some of them struck me with admiration.

These men are engaged with a heroism which I can find no words to express. The Regiment is better than anything we could have expected from it--and when I speak of the Regiment I speak of those who compose it, of whatever rank and whatever grade they may be. But that alone is not enough. The men must have faith and must run, tackle and scrummage for our ideal if they wish to give us victory.

Be calm, confident, and determined to hold on to the end in this hard battle. The victory is to you, because our foes have only one method--namely, to throw their whole weight into the venture and to push it to the end. Yes, I concede, that at times they have broken our lines, but did you think you were going to make a trial in which you would never see the man in support? The only thing that matters is final success. We will never yield at any moment.

The effectives of the others are being exhausted, but meanwhile the Regiment is coming to play a hand in the deciding game. In our Regiment we have a band that represent the future capital of Scotland. O.A., and who have pledged themselves to continue the run until the attainment of the success which we hold within our grasp if we tighten the knickers.

God be with The Regiment and bless GHK!

Adjutant General Shambilton cannot contain his excitement and The Prince cannot contain much more.

Yours as always, running towards the gunfire. 11am Flying Scotsman. Pulling armpit hairs. Never wearing white boots. The need to pee at five to three. Forwards should always hunt in packs. Grasp the waistband. Never face the grass and never put your hands on backwards. Challenge your twilight hours.
Teamtalks in the showers are the German way. Altos Band. Pate Pies. Cammy Little’s novel. One Name. Mine. The temptation of the comeback. The back seat of the bus. The front seat of the bus. Percy’s Tipple.
