Two Super League coaches took a session at Hawks tonight.

IRELAND CALL IN BIG GUNS

Scotland will face some of the legends of Rugby League when they play
Ireland at Glasgow Hawks on Sunday 23 October. The Irish have named a
squad including Leeds Rhinos stars Barry McDermott and Francis Cummins,
Widnes prop Terry OíConnor, Tony Stewart and Karl Fitzpatrick among
four players from Salford City Red and Shayne McMenemy and Paul
McNicholas from Powergen Challenge Cup winners Hull FC.



Ireland coach Daryl Powell fielded a below-strength side against
Cumbria on Sunday at Whitehaven and was rewarded with a 64-4 thrashing.
While the Irish can point to the 17 including seven amateurs from their
domestic league, at least four of them must remain in the side for the
ENC tie.Among the stars missing last Sunday were McDermott, McMenemy,
O'Connor, McNicholas , Cummins, Fitzpatrick, Dean Gaskell of Warrington
Wolves, Patrick Weisner (Halifax), John Gallagher (Hull KR) and Thomas
Haughey (Castleford Tigers). It is unlikely all 10 will be included
when Ireland travel from their Leeds training camp to Glasgow on
Saturday.



Three Scotland players were having fitness tests today ahead of Sunday:
Warrington forward Mike Wainwright, Castleford prop Richard Fletcher
and Clyde Bulls winger Andy McPhail.



Scotland have lost their last five games against Ireland but, after
losing 22-14 in Wales last Sunday, must win on Sunday to keep their
hopes alive of reaching the European Cup Final for the first time, in
Carcassonne against France or Georgia on 5 November. Kick off at
Glasgow Hawks on Sunday is 2.30pm with admission just £5 adults, £1
Under-16s.
