HAWICK ended the lingering title hopes of Hawks and left them to scramble for qualification to the British and Irish Cup.
It was the biggest upset of the Premiership campaign as the Greens produced a stirring display in a controversially-delayed encounter at Old Anniesland.
Hawks had looked set to carve out a narrow success - until they were reduced to 14 men. That gave Hawick the impetus to snatch the glory thanks to a fourth pinpoint penalty by Stuart Hogg.
Hawks found themselves 10 points adrift after as many minutes and lost two of their frontline stars to injury. Playmaker Mike Adamson was replaced by Kris Hamilton, who filled the scrum-half berth with Peter Jericevich switching to No 10. Full-back Robbie Hair was the other casualty, hobbling off to be substituted by Tom Steven.
Hawick had broken the deadlock with barely 60 seconds on the clock when Stuart Hogg slotted a tricky penalty for a ruck offence.
Adamson squandered an easier chance at the other end before the Borderers created an excellent try.
Colin Murray was held up just short of the line and from the scrum flanker Nick Mactaggart powered over from close quarters. Hogg banged over the conversion.
Hawks began to find some rhythm and they forced their way back into the contest with a touchdown by Steven following a tapped-penalty on the half-hour mark.
Hogg repaired some of the damage with his second penalty, however Hawks pounced for another score just before the break when a perfectly-weighted pass from Jericevich enabled Dean Kelbrick to send Sean Murray clear.
Hawks set up camp in enemy territory and earned a penalty try through persistent scrummage pressure, Dean Kelbrick adding the extras.
Then, following a fracas at the restart, the home side's Adrian Smith was yellow carded for over-enthusiastic use of the boot, allowing Hogg to complete his penalty treble.
And the impressive Hogg jumped back into the limelight to slot the clincher after a sustained spell of Hawick attacking play.
