Max launches Glasgow Sevens

The Glasgow Warriors player joined team-mate and current Scotland sevens star Peter Horne and NCS Glasgow City Sevens tournament director Brian Gervaise at Cartha Queen's Park Rugby Club yesterday to unveil details of this year's event which has drawn some of the top club sides from across Great Britain and Europe.

The tournament will take place at Cartha Queen's Park on Saturday 14 May and features 16 clubs including sides from the Aviva Premiership and Magners League. Among those taking part are defending champions Glasgow Hawks, Glasgow Warriors, London Wasps, Ospreys, Ulster Rugby and Swedish Vikings.

Evans said: "Sevens has played a huge part in my career so it's fantastic to see such a terrific event attracting so many big names in the professional and club game.

"I really enjoy playing and watching sevens because it's such a fast and high-scoring version of rugby and I'm sure all those that head along to the Glasgow City Sevens will have a great day out."

The tournament is now in its seventh year and this year's event will feature the four finalists from the NCS Glasgow City Sevens Under-15s Tournament, who will have battled through a qualifying event at the same venue on Sunday 1 May.

Tournament director Brian Gervaise said: "Every year the quality of the competition gets better and better at the Glasgow City Sevens and this year we are looking forward to welcoming sides from some of rugby's top leagues as well as a strong local contingent including the defending champions Glasgow Hawks."

The event is part of the new Legacy Sevens Series, which has been launched this year as part of the city's legacy programme for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The series brings together the already established rugby sevens competitions at Stirling County (Saturday 23 April), Boroughmuir in Edinburgh (Friday 29 April) Howe of Fife in Cupar, Fife (Saturday 7 May) and Glasgow City (Saturday 14 May). The winner of the series will be the Scottish side that accumulates the most points across all four events.

Discounted advance tickets for the City Sevens, costing £7.50 for adults, are available from www.pslteamsports.com. On the day ticket prices will be £10 for adults. All under-18s go free.
