Scotland under-17 35 – 0 England Reds
Scotland’s under-17 squad maintained their unbeaten run with a final day victory over England Reds at the Wellington Festival this afternoon.
Following wins against England Blues and France A this week, added to their success against England under-17 in Leeds earlier this month, head coach Davy Wilson is delighted with his young players.
He said: “It was a tremendous result and a great all-round performance from the team. We defended well as a team and attacked with pace and accuracy and didn’t allow England to play."
The squad now look forward to their final outing of the season, against France under-17, at Selkirk RFC on 1 May (kick-off 2pm, admission free).

Added Wilson: “We’ve been working on goal setting this week so now the players can go back and reflect on their performances, build on their strengths and work on their weaknesses as we prepare for what will be a huge game for the boys.”
“A huge amount of credit should go to our backroom staff, too, for the terrific job they’ve done to keep the boys on the field this week.”
Scotland took the lead after six minutes, stand-off Ben Cooper successfully slotting a penalty, after some good work from centres Sam Moncur and Neil Herron and flanker Shaun McDonald.
Some stout defensive work soon saw the Scots back in English territory and a well-worked drive led to a further penalty, again booted over the bar by Cooper after 20 minutes.
An English clearance after 25 minutes was secured by full back Ruairidh Young who sliced through the opposition defence to score between the posts, the try converted by Cooper.
With minutes to go before half time, solid work from Herron, a lineout at 5m and some effective recycled ball led to Ruairidh Young crossing for his second five-pointer in the corner, the conversion just going wide.
(HT – 18-0)
Three minutes into the second half, winger Damien Hoyland started a move which worked its way upfield through the hands of a host of his team mates and back into his possession to cross the whitewash and make it 23-0.
A good break from scrum half Ramsay Young five minutes later saw him take the ball 40m upfield before passing to Herron to score, the try converted by Cooper to put the Scots ahead 30-0.
England then pressed to get back into the game but the Scottish defence held firm and 25 minutes into the second half a spilled balled by the hosts was retrieved by Hoyland and offloaded to lock Cameron Turner who claimed the Scots’ fifth try and the final points of the game.
