Ian Rankin stays to spearhead Dundee push for honours

IAN Rankin is to continue as director of rugby at Dundee High as the Mayfield club look to step up their bid for honours in next season's Premier One Championship.
The former Edinburgh and Scotland 'A' coach will again lead a coaching team of Alan Clark (backs/skills), JJ van der Esch (scrummage) and Barry Jones and Simon Forrest (strength and conditioning), with Dougie Gray and development officer Kenny Christie in charge of the 2nd XV.

With the support and architectural expertise of former Dundee and Scotland flanker David Leslie pushing new sports facilities, permission has been granted for two floodlit all-weather pitches as well as two new rugby pitches at Dalnacraig.

Along with the opening of a new strength and conditioning suite, it will add up to an excellent sporting campus for Dundee High Rugby and The High School of Dundee, who have recently appointed Alan Campbell as the new director of sport.

Rankin said: "With planning permission now granted, we are all looking forward to the benefit.

"It is vitally important that everything is in place as early as possible to prepare for success over the next 12 months. With league reconstruction a possibility at the end of next season our target is to put ourselves in the driving seat in a league that is becoming increasingly competitive, mainly due to the introduction of the British and Irish Cup, and we all recognise the need to work even harder to achieve that level.
