Peter Horne is to captain the Glasgow Warriors side that will take part in the NCS Glasgow City Sevens at Cartha Queens Park RFC on Saturday.
The tournament, the final leg of the inaugural Legacy Sevens Series, will see the centre skipper a squad featuring ten of the players who were this week named in the Scotland 7s party for the closing two instalments of the HSBC Sevens World Series, at Twickenham on May 21/22 and Murrayfield on May 28/29.
James Johnstone, a member of the Warriors Elite Development programme, will also line up in Dumbreck for what promises to be an action-packed afternoon. London Wasps, whom Glasgow beat in dramatic fashion at Firhill in this season’s Heineken Cup, are among the competing teams.
The tournament, which started in 1935, was made the the final leg of the inaugural Legacy Sevens Series which links the event with three other club sevens competitions as part of the legacy programme for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, namely Boroughmuir, Stirling County and Howe and Fife.
Despite not winning a tournament so far, Stirling County top the Series table with 27 points having come second to Boroughmuir at their home tournament, to Glasgow Hawks at Meggetland and as losing semi-finalists at the Howe of Fife tournament in Cupar on Saturday.
Cupar winners, Howe, are currently runners-up ahead of Boroughmuir and Glasgow Hawks
