The Scotsman previews Glasgow 7s

The tournament, now the final leg of the inaugural Legacy Sevens Series, will feature ten of the 16-man Scotland squad announced this week to compete in the London and Edinburgh legs of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Scotland Sevens head coach Graham Shiel said: "It's important we get the most out of our preparation for the last two tournaments and the Glasgow City Sevens is an opportunity to play good quality opposition one week out from London. We know the World Series will be a step up in terms of pace and physicality but it provides an important springboard to prepare the players properly for the rigours of international sevens."

The Dumbreck tournament, started in 1935, is now linked with the club sevens at Boroughmuir, Stirling County and Howe of Fife as part of the Commonwealth Games 2014 legacy programme.

Defending champions Glasgow Hawks kick off the tournament against West of Scotland while Howe of Fife face Glasgow Warriors as they chase Legacy Series leaders Stirling County.

NCS Glasgow City Sevens: (first tie 1pm) Glasgow Hawks v West of Scotland, Perthshire v Ayr, London Wasps v Howe of Fife, Biggar v Royal Scots, Ospreys v Edinburgh University, Cartha Queens Park v Aberdeen Grammar, Glasgow Warriors v Whitecraigs, GHA v Stirling County.

NCS Glasgow City Sevens Under-15 finals: Cartha Queens Park v Boroughmuir, Ayr v Cambuslang.
