Snoopy gives insight

This week for Warriors Warm-up Wednesday glasgowwarriors.org caught up with Elite Development Coach, Iain Monaghan.

Monaghan gave an insight into what the Scottish Rugby National Elite Development Programme (EDP) is, talking about the purpose and structure of the programme and how the young EDP players assigned to Glasgow Warriors are getting on with pre-season.

Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org Monaghan said: “This programme has been developed for talented young players in Scotland and works in conjunction with the two pro-teams.

“A strong point we make from the beginning and try to encourage throughout is that the boys must have a strong belief in themselves to go forward and work their way up the ranks into pro-rugby.

“The players are at an age where we can have a positive impact in their lives helping them develop, first and foremost, their ability to play the game and in addition to this a professional personality with strong leadership skills. For some of the boys in the programme we do this by encouraging them through university and apprenticeships working in line with their rugby development programme.

“In terms of the pre-season they are all developing at different rates due to the individual tailoring of their programmes. Each player has come from a background which has shown that they have the potential to be successful in elite rugby. This programme ensures that each player achieves optimum development through a co-ordinated individual programme aimed at ensuring they are supported to reach their potential.”
