THE Scottish Rugby Union has appointed a Glasgow-based recruitment firm in their search for a new chief executive, but have stated that they are prepared to wait "for the right person".
The departure of Gordon McKie from the chief executive post at Murrayfield was a widely-reported affair filled with controversy and so it remains unlikely that many if any potential candidates are not already aware of the opening.

However, Odgers Berndtson have now been appointed to handle the recruitment process with the SRU confirming that the post will shortly be officially advertised.

SRU director of communications and public affairs Dominic McKay told The Scotsman: "We said from the start that this would be a thorough recruitment search geared towards ensuring that we make the right appointment for Scottish rugby.

"We are fortunate that Jock Millican (board member] has agreed to remain in post until we find the right candidate to take Scottish rugby forward, and that has ensured little change to Scottish Rugby's day-to-day business.

"Now that we have appointed Odgers Berndtson we will be moving forward into August with the recruitment process, but the speed with which the process moves and the appointment is made will depend on candidates and the availability of people involved."

Many names have been touted as contenders from John Steele, the former London Scottish coach who recently left the same role with the RFU under a cloud, to Millican himself.

It is believed that a number of individuals have already submitted notes of their interest in the post. Asked about that, McKay said: "We will take the time that is necessary to get the right person for the post and the Scottish Rugby Board and Scottish Rugby Council are committed to that, but it is a confidential process."
