Evening Times reports
Glasgow head coach Sean Lineen today admitted his side’s 17-7 friendly victory over Newcastle Falcons has given them a positive platform going forward into the RaboDirect Pro 12 league.
Two tries from new boy Tommy Seymour and Stuart Hogg after the interval, both converted by Duncan Weir, and a Scott Wight penalty, claimed the scalp of the English Premiership side.
With just next Monday’s run-out at Glasgow Hawks and Friday week’s trip to Sale left, Lineen says his squad are in a good place.
He said: “I was really pleased with all the new boys. Tommy Seymour has shown real potential and took his try well while, once we channel Rory Pitman’s aggression, we will have a real menacing presence in the back row.
“I was also really pleased with our fitness and I felt that, halfway through the second half, Newcastle maybe were struggling to stay with the tempo we played at.
“Now we have a three-day training camp at Largs this week and it is Glasgow Hawks next Monday at their place, then off to Sale to round things off.
“But I think as a starting point into the final stretch of our preparations it was all very positive. All of the new boys gave us something extra and that is why I signed them.”
Lineen added: “I was also very impressed with Henry Pyrgos, who had an excellent game at scrum-half.”
Scotland secured second place in the Four Nations Rugby League Championships with a 26-18 win over Ireland at Scotstoun.
Ash Carroll’s side needed to win by two points to finish runners-up behind Wales and secured that with a comfortable victory.
