Chairman's Update

Good morning all Accies supporters,
The summer must be drawing to a close as the rugby season is about to begin.
With Hawks having played on Friday evening against Watsonians at Myreside and winning by 39-21 I took the opportunity to watch Accies play Cartha QP at Drumbreck yesterday afternoon. Although they lost by 6 tries to 4 it was a very encouraging performance as they played some excellent rugby. A little more composure and cutting out the handling errors, they cost three tries, and I am sure that they will have a successful season. One point of note is that the scrummaging was terrific and a number of strikes against the head were taken.
I am sure that your new scribe Stephen Winter will produce a full match report over the weekend.
Accies first league game is on Saturday 3rd September when Waysiders/Drumpellier are the visitors to New Anniesland.
As you are probably aware I have taken over as Chairman of Hawks. The job is fairly demanding but I am enjoying it thoroughly. So far pre season has been successful with wins over a Cummnock Select, Belfast Harlequins in Belfast and Watsonians. The team has been together now for nearly two years and it shows in the performances. They understand each other and play some sparkling rugby although it is so early in the season. The first league game is this Saturday when Stirling County are the visitors to Old Anniesland. With Accies idle I hope that you will come and see what is on offer. Adopting Hawks as your second side would be great.
Admission to Hawks games costs £10 or £7 if you are over 65. Students are charged £2.50. If you are a member of the Academical Club you can purchase a season ticket for £50 this gains you entry to the ground, reserved seating in the stand and entry to the Clubhouse for all games except cup ties. Even if you do not attend all games the money will be put to good use in supporting the Hawks Trust that provides rugby to 15 primary and three secondary schools in the Anniesland area.
If you are interested in purchasing a ticket please send me an email and pay at the gate on your first visit, when the ticket will be ready for uplifting. Accies are normally away from home when Hawks play at Old Anniesland.
Hawks/Accies fixture cards are now available and if you would like one send me, by email, your home address and one will be posted to you this week.
Your support is important to us and I look forward to meeting you again when the season begins

Alasdair Graham
