Scotland on Sunday reports
Hawks 25 Gala 36
Against the run of play, with Gala dominating the tight encounters, Hawks took the lead through a brilliant individual try from Kerr Gossman with Peter Jericevich converting.
Gala winger Shaun Law got in under the bar with Andy McLean's conversion added to Lee Millar's earlier penalty.
Five minutes from the break Gossman had a big hand in the try from centre Paddy Robinson that eased Hawks ahead and Jericevich added a penalty.
The second half opened with a brace of Gala tries. Euan Dodds went through a gap, McLean converted, and Millar squeezed in at the corner. With Jericevich kicking a penalty Gala led 22-18 and the game went quiet with the scrums reduced to non-contact as Hawks lost two props through injury.
When Kris Hamilton scored a try converted by Jericevich, Gala refused to settle for a point; in a rousing last four minutes first Alan Edmond and Dodds touched down with McLean and Millar adding conversions.
